  • Welcome to our 2026 Cohort

We’re delighted to introduce our first group of trainees who will be joining the NSERC CREATE TESS this fall for our first semester of programming.

This cohort brings together an incredibly diverse collection of expertise and backgrounds spanning numerous disciplinary topics, each with a commitment to transdisciplinary research and sustainability at the core of what they do. Some are early in their research careers. Some have spent years in a lab. Some have spent years in community organizations, studios, or policy offices, but we know each will make the TESS program richer because of their participation.

Over the coming years this group will move through our program together as a cohort, learning, working with community and industry partners, and, we hope, pushing us to keep rethinking what sustainability training should look like. If you are interested to learn more about the work that each of our trainees is engaged with, please follow the link below.

Fall 2026 applications are now open!

We are excited to announce that we are accepting applications for the NSERC CREATE in Transdisciplinary Engineering and Science for Sustainability (TESS) training program and scholarship. TESS is a NSERC-CREATE (Collaborative Research And Training Experience Program) which prepares its trainees to design and implement sustainable, inclusive, and equitable solutions to tackle complex global challenges. The program will connect students, researchers, and industry partners together around sustainability-focused learning, collaboration, and applied research.

TESS is designed to be a value-added training program for MSc, PhD, and postdoctoral researchers looking to translate their research into both meaningful societal and real-world outcomes. The TESS program will also be accepting interested BSc students through summer research placements with researchers on the team. Prospective students, interested collaborators, and potential partnerships can explore the program details here: CREATE-TESS

Interested applicants should be working with or be accepted to work with one of the TESS program Co-PIs and/or collaborators and be enrolled of one of the participating institutions.

Applications for the Fall 2026 intake will remain open until the 17th of July.
